The course, 4 NCCAOM Ethics PDA's pending, will provide the attendees an overview of the federal and state legal requirements imposed upon an acupuncture practice concerning health care laws prohibiting fraud and abuse as well as compliance with all applicable privacy requirements.  Specifically, the attendees will learn about the following key concepts:

i.  Federal and state prohibition against impermissible kickbacks.  An examination of both the criminal and civil penalties will be examined in connection with prohibited kickbacks.  This portion of the seminar will also explore  how key business relationships must be structured to avoid unintentionally violating criminal and civil statutes prohibiting kickbacks.

ii.  Federal and state prohibitions against improper self-referrals of patients.

iii.  Federal and state prohibitions against “fee-splitting” of fees collected for professional services.

iv.  An examination of other key federal and state fraud and abuse prohibitions.

v.  An examination of key federal and state requirements for maintaining the security, confidentiality and integrity of patient health information, including the HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules.
